Parenting Stress and Anxiety Treatment

Let us guide you inward and help you refine your parenting style, enhance your skills, and treat your symptoms of anxiety and burnout for transformative change.

You may have arrived here if you…

  • Feel wound up, fatigued, irritable, and find it difficult to relax due to all your caretaking responsibilities

  • Are tired of overwhelming worry and guilt about your child's well-being, development (milestones), socialization, separation anxiety, and school performance

  • Feel you may have parenting anxiety, postpartum anxiety, or antenatal/pregnancy anxiety

  • Are interested in addressing parenting anxiety, burnout, positive parenting, child development, parenting styles, behavior problems, and attachment concerns

  • Feel stressed out by your kids and concerned about how parenting a child with anxiety is impacting both you and your child

You may be feeling that your life is constricted and consumed by worries about your children and family.

  • Perhaps it is rare that you can take time for yourself to just rest. When you do try to unwind, it is hard to truly relax and you find yourself preoccupied with the future or dwelling on the past.

  • It might seem like you're missing out on the beauty of your family and everyday moments. Some describe feeling disconnected or robotic, especially when juggling daily tasks. This can divert us from the present moment and the joys of parenthood.

  • Or you've explored stress solutions, yet your feelings and behavior remain unchanged. Perhaps you've grown resigned to this way of life or are uncertain about your next steps.

If any of these concerns have been bothering you, you’ve come to the right place! While feeling stressed and overwhelmed with parenting are not uncommon, there are ways to gain greater mental flexibility that will provide you with the space to take a closer look at your values and adjust in a way that aligns best for you and your family.

You don’t have to be alone.

Our work will help you gain insights, interrupt patterns and replace them with your new parenting vision.

In our therapy, we have two key objectives. First, we'll work on unraveling your personal stress, anxiety, or any other challenges affecting your relationship with your child. You deserve to be heard, seen, and valued.

The second objective is to support your parenting journey and to strengthen your connection with your child or adolescent. We recognize your deep love and understanding of your children, and we'll work together to provide you with the tools needed for meaningful change.

We’ll help you define your purpose and enhance your experience of peace and presence in parenting using evidence-based techniques.

What’s in the Treatment?

I use a variety of treatment modalities to help you. I use Family Systems, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and neuropsychological techniques known as Coherence Therapy.

Our approach to parenting work is grounded in a framework which is sensitive to your children’s developmental level and incorporates tools from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness. The program is flexible and tailored to each unique child-parent dynamic.

Empowering parents to build stronger relationships with their children

My commitment and expertise

Parenting, at every stage, is a journey filled with both moments of joy and challenges. Beyond the daily responsibilities, it entails a range of emotional and psychological complexities inherent in human relationships. These complexities become especially apparent as parents and children, each with their unique temperaments, characteristics, and past experiences, interact. Furthermore, parents may find that their own childhood histories and life stressors influence their parental behaviors, giving rise to inner experiences that can surface unexpectedly.

Dr. Morton has accumulated years of experience in pediatric care across hospital systems, schools, and community mental health settings. She has worked extensively with parents and children facing various pediatric concerns, spanning from educational concerns, mental health diagnoses to medical issues that have impacted the entire family system. Dr. Morton understands that, more often than not, parents are looking to survive their days with their children, but ultimately, they envision a family life that looks very different from their day-to-day experiences. At Upstate New York Psychology Practice, our primary mission is to help you uncover the tools not just for survival, but for thriving in your unique parenting journey.
