Treatment Relief for Symptoms of Adult Stress, Anxiety and Related Disorders

Our expertise lies in transforming symptoms of stress and anxiety disorders into relief, possibilities, and hope through personalized treatment (CBT, ERP, ACT) for acute stress, generalized anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, specific phobia, and obsessive thoughts and compulsion.

You may have arrived here if you…

  • Are feeling on edge, irritable, trapped and overwhelmed by worry, rumination, and racing thoughts

  • Are experiencing intrusive and repetitive, obsessive thoughts

  • Are experiencing physical symptoms like difficulty sleeping, body tension, headaches, gastrointestinal problems, or anxiety attacks due to stress and anxiety

  • Are sensing impending doom and are tired of hoping you won’t have a panic and anxiety attack

Feeling anxious is part of the human experience. Anxiety can even be helpful at times, pushing us to achieve our goals. But when our anxiety becomes constant and interferes with our daily life, it can make life less enjoyable, overwhelming and even debilitating.

Anxiety can be draining and its effects can seep past your thoughts and interfere with your daily life.

  • Maybe it’s become difficult to build and sustain important relationships.

  • Or you have started to isolate yourself to avoid anxiety triggers or public embarrassment from reactions that feel out of control.

  • Maybe you have been feeling paralyzed by decisions, fearing effortful dreams and goals, leading to procrastination and life on the sidelines.

  • Perhaps you are contemplating your medical provider’s recommendation to explore mindfulness or mental health treatment for managing symptoms that are related to anxiety.

Clinical anxiety comes in many types and forms including acute stress, generalized anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, specific phobia, and obsessive thoughts and compulsions.

Upstate New York Private Practice understands the many faces of stress and anxiety and are ready to assess and treat your concerns.

Our clinic was designed to help you identify the source of your anxiety, to challenge your symptoms, and to ultimately get help that optimizes your functioning.

We achieve this by teaching you techniques that can help you transform your thoughts, experience your emotions differently, change your problematic patterns, manage your behavior and help you do things you never thought were possible.

We will help you change your relationship with your anxiety and empower you to learn skills to find the inner peace you’ll create with our program via skill and relaxation training.

Why Dr. Morton is passionate about helping people challenge their anxiety

Anxiety disorders are currently among the most common psychiatric illnesses in the United States and untreated, can lead to a great amount of personal distress, functional and productivity challenges, and even physical health problems. The good news is that extensive research has made these disorders highly treatable!

The prospect of bridging the divide between untreated anxiety's suffering and the relief found in evidence-based treatment inspired Dr. Morton to pursue research and clinical training, ensuring the delivery of these services to the public.

Dr. Morton received graduate training in the treatment of adult-related disorders at the University of Toronto before embarking on her doctoral program. She continued to expand her expertise, receiving pre-doctoral training and supervision in therapy and assessment for adults and couples while maintaining a consistent focus on stress and anxiety. Her commitment to these areas led Dr. Morton to actively contribute to the literature on stress, anxiety, psychopathology, burnout, resilience, and well-being. You can read more about her research interests here. Dr. Morton subsequently pursued advanced postdoctoral training for adults and couples dealing with stress, anxiety, chronic pain, and a range of comorbid disorders in an integrated mental health care setting. Her training informs the mission of Upstate New York Psychology Practice to provide treatment that is science-based, straightforward, personalized, and effective.
